Week 25 – Top Single Day

Date: June 19, 2026
Age: 39
Bodyweight: ~81 kg
Context: Final bench session of Week 25. The objective was to consolidate recent progress after the fatigue-related volume setback earlier in the week and continue prioritizing shoulder health over chasing heavier numbers.

Session Note:

You felt 130 kg was almost certainly available, but intentionally chose not to attempt it in order to:

  • preserve energy for the remainder of the session,
  • continue reinforcing excellent technique,
  • avoid unnecessary stress on the recovering rotator cuff.

🧠 Session Interpretation / Why This Session Matters

This was one of the best-managed sessions you’ve had this year.

Not because of the weight.

Because of the decisions.

The Biggest Difference From Earlier This Week

On Monday you wrote:

“I ignored my fatigue signals.”

Today, you did the opposite.

You recognized:

  • the lift felt good,
  • 130 was likely there,

and still chose not to take it.

That’s not leaving progress on the table—that’s investing in the next several weeks of training.

127.5 Is Becoming Routine

This is now the second week in a row that:

  • 127.5 moved cleanly,
  • stayed around RPE 8,
  • showed good bar speed,
  • and featured a consistent bar path.

At this point, I’d consider 127.5 kg a consolidated training weight, not a test.

That’s exactly what we want before moving heavier.

Technique Is Becoming a Theme

Over your last few logs you’ve repeatedly mentioned:

  • “Technique was really locked in.”
  • “Clean bar path.”
  • “Good speed.”

Those comments are appearing more often than they did a couple of months ago.

That suggests your bench isn’t just getting stronger—it’s becoming more efficient.

Efficiency is one of the easiest ways to gain kilos on the bar without actually becoming “stronger” in a physiological sense.

Pull-Up Progress

This might actually be my favorite update from today’s log.

A few weeks ago:

  • pull-ups aggravated your elbow enough that we removed them.

Today:

  • 2 × 10
  • static hold on the final rep
  • largely pain-free

That’s substantial progress.

I still wouldn’t rush back into weighted pull-ups, but bodyweight pull-ups now look ready to become a regular part of your program again.

Rotator Cuff Trend

If I summarize the last month:

  • Late May: irritated, influencing exercise selection.
  • Early June: stable but unchanged.
  • Mid-June: slight improvement with reaching and arm rotation.
  • Today: no indication that bench aggravated it, and you made a smart decision not to chase an unnecessary heavier single.

That’s the trend I was hoping to see.

Week 25 Summary

This week included:

  • 122.5 × 3 before fatigue caught up on Monday.
  • 150 × 3 × 3 deadlift reintroduction.
  • 102.5 × 5 × 3 with excellent speed.
  • 125 kg moving smoothly.
  • 127.5 kg moving cleanly at RPE 8.
  • Pull-ups returning with minimal discomfort.

Despite one difficult session, the overall week was productive.

Looking Ahead

I think next week we can start thinking about 130 kg again—not because you need to prove you can lift it, but because you’ve now built a solid base underneath it.

The key will be to choose the right day, with good recovery and the same patient mindset you’ve shown today.

🏁 Overall Assessment

Bench Strength

Excellent

Technique

Best it’s been in months

Confidence

Rebuilding steadily

Pull-Ups

Ready for gradual reintroduction

Rotator Cuff

Improving, though still worth monitoring

Recovery

Well managed

The biggest lesson from today’s session is that you’ve started distinguishing between what you can do and what you need to do. That shift is one of the reasons experienced lifters continue making progress for years.

One final thought: comparing this week to a month ago, your numbers aren’t dramatically different—but your decision-making is. And I think that will have a bigger impact on where your bench is six months from now than squeezing out one extra rep or one extra 2.5 kg jump today.
