Kaged Intra-Workout Review: Hydration + Endurance for Longer Sessions

Why I Tried Kaged Intra-Workout: My Search for the Perfect Training Fuel

I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect intra-workout supplement that actually delivers on its promises. After years of trying various BCAA powders and intra-workout formulas that either tasted like chemicals or did absolutely nothing, I decided to give Kaged’s Cherry Lemonade Intra-Workout a shot.

What first caught my attention was the price point – at ¥4,326 as a one-time purchase, I thought it was relatively cheap compared to other premium intra-workout supplements I’d been eyeing. In the supplement world where everything seems to cost an arm and a leg, this felt like a reasonable investment to test.

The next selling point for me was that it’s naturally flavored. I’m tired of supplements that taste like a chemistry experiment, and the promise of a clean, natural cherry lemonade flavor was appealing. Plus, let’s be honest – I’m a sucker for anything cherry-flavored.

I also low-key liked the design and packaging. Now, I know that should never be a primary reason for purchasing a supplement – what matters is whether the supplement does what it claims. But in any case, I just wanted to mention that the clean, minimalist design caught my eye.

But here’s what really sealed the deal: the inclusion of 124mg of caffeine derived from organic PurCaf® from green coffee beans. Up until now, I’ve been mindful about my caffeine intake, which is why I use only non-stim pre-workouts. This allows me flexibility to have caffeine later on throughout the day, which I do need via coffee. However, seeing this caffeine is from, well, coffee beans – I thought why not give it a try as also possibly a coffee replacement?

I’ve been using this consistently for the past couple of weeks during my strength training sessions, and I’m ready to share the real deal about whether this lives up to the hype.

Mixability / Taste / Texture

Mixing Experience

This stuff mixes like a dream. Following the suggested use of 12-16oz of cold water, it dissolves completely within 10-15 seconds of shaking. No clumps, no settling at the bottom – it’s honestly one of the cleanest mixing supplements I’ve tried.

Taste Profile

The cherry lemonade flavor is surprisingly authentic. It’s not that artificial, overly sweet cherry taste you get from most supplements. Instead, it has a genuine tart cherry flavor with a subtle lemonade finish that’s refreshing without being cloying.

First sip: Tart cherry hits immediately, followed by a clean lemonade finish
During workout: The flavor stays consistent and doesn’t get weird or metallic
After workout: No weird aftertaste or lingering sweetness

Texture

Smooth and light – not thick or syrupy like some intra-workout formulas. It feels more like a flavored water than a sports drink, which I actually prefer during intense training.

Performance & Effectiveness

Energy & Focus

Here’s where this product really shines. I typically take it 15-20 minutes into my workout (after my warm-up sets), and within 10-15 minutes, I notice a subtle but consistent energy boost. The 124mg of organic PurCaf® caffeine from green coffee beans provides clean energy without the jitters – it’s not overwhelming, just sustained energy that helps me power through those last few sets.

Hydration

The electrolyte blend with coconut water powder makes a noticeable difference. I used to get that “dehydrated” feeling during longer sessions, but with this, I feel more hydrated and less fatigued, especially during those 90-minute strength training sessions.

Recovery Between Sets

The BCAA profile (2:1:1 ratio) with 5g total BCAAs seems to help with recovery between sets. I notice I can maintain intensity longer and don’t feel as “gassed out” between exercises. The 3g L-Citrulline (Aminature®) also provides that nice pump that makes you feel like you’re actually getting somewhere.

Overall Workout Experience

My workouts feel more sustained and focused. I’m not hitting that wall at the 60-minute mark like I used to, and I can push through those last few sets with better form and intensity.

Off-Day Coffee Replacement

Here’s something I didn’t expect – I’ve started using this as an actual coffee replacement on my off days. Sometimes I’ll sip on it throughout the day instead of making a cup of coffee, and I get along just fine. In fact, it’s more convenient than having to make a cup of coffee, which I usually do.

The past couple weeks, my work output has been more productive than usual… (I wonder if there’s a connection there). The 124mg of organic PurCaf® caffeine seems to provide that same clean energy boost I get from coffee, but without the acidity or the need to brew anything.
